2 reasons, the first is that the beer is moved from the Fermenting room into the Cold room when it is at the right Specific Gravity to guarantee the alcohol percentage. By doing this there could still be traces of yeast in the beer. When the beer is in the Cold room it is chilled down to 2 degrees C. and the yeast stops working. If you allow the beer to warm back up to over 10 degrees C. the yeast will reactivate and the alcohol percentage will increase, there will be a small bit of sediment formed, and the bottles can explode due to the increase in pressure. Secondly because there are no preservatives or chemicals in the beer needs to be kept chilled at all times.
Why do I need to bleach my bottles?
Beer bottles will end up with a beer film in them if they are only rinsed and not bleached. Picture your tea cup at work; if you just rinse it, eventually it gets a brown film on it. To some extent your beer bottle will end up the same. Carbonated beer will turn all foamy when it comes in contact with beer film and is very difficult to fill the bottle. An unbleached, rinsed bottle will appear slightly dull whilst a bleached bottle has a definite shine to it and is like a brand new bottle. Use 400ml bleach to 80 litres if water, or 5ml of bleach per litre of water.
How should I keep my Kegs & Keg Fridge Lines and Taps clean?
When your keg is empty release the pressure, remove the lid and give keg a hose out, especially if your empty kegs are kept in a hot place. It is a good idea to half fill an empty keg with hot water and run through your lines and taps after each keg is finished. You should always use a beer line cleaner with each clean. It is also a good idea to remove your tap and dismantle it and give it a good clean and lubricate the o-rings. Frequency depends on how often you use your system. Please ask our friendly staff for more info.

If you’re keen to have a go at a few brews but can’t quite fit the whole six cartons in the fridge you can always store them in our cool room for a small fee. If you pick a standard range beer we can offer smaller batches to brew to suit your needs.
How long until I can start drinking my beer and how long will it last?
Straight Away. The beers are good to drink while you’re bottling them, which is two to four weeks after brewing. A lot of them will definitely improve with a little bit of time in the bottle, especially those in the Special and Ultimate ranges. If stored correctly in a fridge, the brews should be good for up to twelve months.

Why does Local Brew House beer not give me a hangover?
Our beers contain none of the preservatives and additives that a lot of the commercial brews do, and they’re fresher, cleaner and made with the best quality ingredients available. The down side to this, of course, is that you must keep them cold if you intend to store them for any length of time. If the temperatures get over 10C then the tiny bits of yeast left dormant in the cold beer can start to ferment again, creating more gas and sediment.
Do you hire out or sell kegs?
We unfortunately don’t hire them out however we can provide affordable options to buy. We can set you up with everything you need for your own keg beer at home, a fancy stainless steel double or triple-tap kegerator. We then become a complete one stop shop for all your needs.
